After week-long forecasts for thunderstorms, C + G pledged their love for one another on a beautiful, sunny day at the 1100 Block Bergen Street Community Garden followed by a celebration at the Stuyvesant Mansion in Brooklyn, NY. Their ceremony brought together elements from both of their backgrounds as well as the things that are important to them. Friends did readings and sang songs and their families joined together to welcome their union. The whole ceremony began with a baraat, a procession that involves music and dancing as C + G joined each other for the first time that day. It was a gorgeous day that had just a few raindrops (for good luck!) and so many wonderful wishes for this amazing couple.
A few details I loved about this ceremony:
- C wore the same bangles that G’s mother wore at her wedding
- She also wore G’s grandmother’s ring
- Instead of rings, the two exchanged pieces of jewelry with one another’s birthstones. C got a necklace and G got a bracelet.
- The day after their wedding, the two hosted a picnic for friends and family in the same park where we had their engagement session.
- As the baraat was winding down, C + G’s parents exchanged garlands with one another, C + G later did the same.
- “We now pronounce you married!” was exclaimed by the entire wedding (reading off of a sign that the officiant held up) before the first kiss.
Beautiful.
